Parlez vous Wanklais?

Hilary Harper, la journaliste de circulation par excellence, detait assez gentil pour m'avertir d'un "contretemps" sur la grande route d'Monash un matin recemment. Merci Hilary!

    qu'est-ce qu'elle a dit?! elle a utilise' le mot "contretemps" en decrivant l'embouteillage!?!? si elle a dit une telle chose, il faut qu'elle trouve des autres mots pour decrire la circulation, OU qu'elle trouve un autre boulot- peutetre en ecrivant les descriptions du vin ("un cabernet sauvignon au palais charpante" etc) ou quelquechose d'autre ou on peut dire des petits phrases cons sans paraitre completement ridicule :)

    J'ai utilisé des outils de langue de Google pour traduire votre blog et les commentaires en anglais, ainsi je pourrais les lire. Alors j'écris à son sujet en anglais et obtiens les toos pour traduire ce commentaire de nouveau dans le Français pour toi des snobs de langue !

    Только что переведя CKs пост, я доволен, что там остается голосом общего(обычного) человека(мужчины), желая работать приличная работа дней для приличной платы дней. Я отрекаюсь от моего проклятия.
    Я уверен, что это не делает грамматический смысл(чувство), но это - цена наводнения Интернетов информации.

    and translates as 'as soon as I translated CK's post i was pleased to see that there is another person just willing to do an honest day's work. So I renounce this curse (?!) I also see that this thing doesn't make grammatical sense, but that's what you get when you put too much information on the internet. Blessings to all'

    That was fun ;) haha. in case you are wondering that little exercise just took me bloody AGES. i am just stubborn enough to want to translate it without using the website, and mate, russian dictionaries are dastardly. and dagradon can you tell us what you actually typed into that confounded translator thing!? i fear the translation doesn't really make all that much sense...?

    hmmm, haha.

    what i had (roughly) written, and then had translated was:
    i just finishd translating CKs post, and am glad there remains a voice of the common man, willing to do a decent days work for a decent days pay. i retract my curse.
    i'm sure this wont make grammatical sense, but thats the price of an Internet deluged with information.

    why the dictionary?! coz i studied russian for 2 years, about 6 years ago!! that's why the dictionary :)
    plus, their crazy ass alphabet is in a completely different order to ours (their 'v' is shaped 'B' and is the third letter in the alphabet. our 'm' is their 't', our 'p' is their 'r', our 'c' is their 's', and all manner of other craziness! that's why the dictionary. plus, their grammar is WHACK!

    Jess, you called my bluff. I speak a little French, but I called in the big guns (any of my family members who are all pretty much fluent) to translate my little sentence. Which, if you're still interested and still not clear about, was:

    "Hilary Harper, Best Traffic Reporter Ever, was kind enough to warn me of a 'contretemps' on the Monash Freeway the other morning. Thanks Hilary!"

    'Contretemps' when used in English means 'a minor dispute or disagreement', from the French meaning ‘motion out of time’ and denoting a thrust in fencing made at an inopportune moment. But then I'm sure you already knew that. I know I did before I went and looked it up. My traffic report-based education continues. :-)

    Oh, and Comrade Jess, how much Russian does two years get you? Can you order borscht and vodka at a bar in Vladivostok? Assuming you were able to ask directions to the bar? My three years of high school French has enabled me to ask my way to the Tourist Office in Dieppe. “Où est la syndicate d’initiative, s’il vous plait?” I can’t recall why now, but in Year 7 “syndicate d’initiative” was the funniest thing ever. Everyone in my class would work it into conversation whenever they could. Strange.

    When I get the time I’d like to learn German. It’s my favourite language I don’t speak. It’s so expressive. One day, one day. Why did you choose Russian?

    Dag, I’m impressed by that web translator. It seems much better than Babel Fish. Which is disappointing. As a Hitchhiker’s fan I wanted Babel Fish to conquer the world.

    Oh, and yes Jess, I agree that Hilary's vast vocab might be better employed in other ways. Perhaps when she tires of reporting the traffic she could get a job writing real estate descriptions? Now there's a job that requires a full arsenal of adjectives and superlatives, and rewards a dexterous mind that can twist a 'shitheap' into a 'renovator's delight'!

    Hey there, well, 2 years of Russian and I'm still confused in a dictionary :) But I could hold a conversation - albeit embarrassingly badly - on a few different subjects.

    i've been to france more than 10 times and i have never once in my LIFE had to ask anyone for the syndicate d’initiative!!! :)

    i'm about to leave to go overseas in a couple of months and i will be spending about 4-8 months each in ireland, germany and morocco. it's funny - the whole trip is just looking so big and huge and crazy that i have sort of FORGOTTEN that i'm going to be living in germany for 4 months!! sehr gut :)

    by the way, the grammar of that thing's translations is horrible. HORRIBLE!

    have you ever seen such a brief post generate such a volume of comments?!
